The Tuby-throated Hummingbird 38 weeks 3 days ago: The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is one of sixteen hummingbirds to inhabit North America. It is a tiny bird, weighing less than a penny. Hummingbirds are the only species that can fly in any direction including upside down and backwards.
North American Hummingbirds 37 weeks 6 days ago: I love to watch the hummingbirds flutter through my flower beds. Some are as tiny as a butterfly and their wings beat faster than the speed of light… not really, but they can flap their wings up to 90 times a second (depending on the species) and that’s fast. Sometimes I get tired just watching them.
Banding a Hummingbird 2 weeks 3 days ago: Each year thousands of hummingbirds move through Louisiana during fall and spring migration. Some of the species which breed in western North America choose not to go across the Gulf of Mexico to the normal wintering grounds in Mexico and Central America and instead, stay in the states along the Gulf Coast. This is the story of one of those hummingbirds, an immature female Rufous, who arrived in Nov. in Covington, LA and was captured, banded and released on Feb. 21, 2010.

This moth will feed during the day and it's shape, coloration and scaleless wings give it the appearance of a small hummingbird.
