La Belle Dame Sans Merci is the first short story I ever wrote. It's based on a prompt set by the Merry Sisters of Fate watcher prompt competition. The prompt was Frank Cadogan Cowper's painting "La Belle Dame Sans Merci", please follow the links below to see the painting.
I based my short story around Cowper's painting, John Keats's poem "La Belle Dame Merci", John William Waterhouses's painting "The Lady of Shalott" and Marc Chagall's painting "Bouquet with Flying Lovers".
